Ministry of Interior: Naturalization of a citizen's wife - Procedures required to obtain citizenship

"Granting Saudi citizenship to the wife of a Saudi citizen" is a legal procedure through which "a foreign wife can be granted Saudi citizenship" after fulfilling specific conditions, with the aim of promoting family stability and achieving social integration. Basic requirements for naturalizing the wife of a Saudi citizen:

  4. Good character and conduct: The wife must have a good reputation, without criminal records or legal violations.
  5. Proficiency in Arabic: The wife must demonstrate the ability to speak Arabic fluently, and proof of this may be required through an accredited certificate.
  6. Renunciation of original nationality: Formal renunciation of previous nationality is required, because the Kingdom does not recognize dual nationality.
  7. Continuation of the marital relationship: The marriage must be in effect at the time of application, except in the event of the husband’s death if the wife has Saudi children.

Procedures followed:

Applications are submitted electronically via the Absher platform, where application forms are filled out and the required documents are attached (such as marriage contract, passport, birth certificate, proof of residence).

The transaction is referred to the Civil Status Office for review, then it is submitted to the Ministry of Interior, and final approval is issued by the Prime Minister based on a proposal from the Minister of Interior.

A security and social screening is conducted, and may include a personal interview to assess cultural and linguistic integration.

Advantages of Saudi citizenship after naturalization:

  1. The right to work in both the public and private sectors.
  2. Access to free healthcare and education.
  3. Owning real estate and participating in investments.
  4. Obtaining a Saudi passport.
  5. Benefit from national support programs (social security, housing support).

Note: The naturalization process is not automatic, but is subject to official approval, and procedures have recently been simplified through electronic platforms to expedite transactions.
